TYLER -- The Longview Lobos worked on Friday to keep two separate streaks alive in their victory over Tyler Lee. The Lobos successfully extended their streak over the Red Raiders to 10 wins in a row and inched closer to their 12th consecutive playoff appearance in the process, defeating Lee 52-6 at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

The Lobos (6-3, 3-2) were efficient both in the air and on the ground, taking advantage of several Lee miscues and short field position. Longview gained 237 yards through the air and 243 on the ground despite missing starting tailback Tory White with a concussion.

Sophomore QB Dezmond Chumley had another impressive performance going 10 of 13 for 145 yards and a TD. Justin Spady had five catches for 94 yards and a TD and Dorian Leonard had three catches for 70 yards. L’Darrius Peterson led the way on the ground with 98 yards and a TD on 13 carries while Damian Russell had 58 yards on six carries.

Longview used up more than half the first quarter, driving the ball 85 yards in 14 plays.  A Russell score from a yard out, his first of two on the night, put the Lobos up 7-0. The Red Raiders fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Lobos wasted little time, scoring on the next play as Chumley found Spady wide open on a play-action pass from 36 yards out for a 14-0 lead.

The Lobos moved the ball with relative ease throughout, scoring on all but their first possession of the game.

Tyler Lee’s lone bright spot came early in the second quarter with a bit of trickery. Facing a fourth-and-2 at its own 49 and lining up to punt, punter Lumi Kaba found Bryce Stewart across the middle where he took it in from 51 yards out for Lee’s only score of the night.  The extra point was blocked.

The Lobos wasted little time getting back on the board.

Following a J’Mycal Hasty 15 yard touchdown run, the Lobos dug into their own bag of tricks, successfully pulling off an onside kick that was recovered by Corey Bartley. They weren’t done there, however, as on the next play Spady took a handoff from Chumley and rolled out before finding Leonard deep inside the Lee 5-yard line. Two plays later Russell finished off the drive from 2 yards out.

The Lobos missed a chance at another great special teams play in the third quarter when Nakia Brown took a punt 56 yards for a score, however he was flagged at the 1-yard line for a premature celebration penalty. The Lobos scored on the next play as Jeremy Powell bullied his way for a 16-yard score, taking several Lee players with him along the way.

The Red Raiders (1-8, 0-5) finished the night with just 135 yards and seven first downs.  LeTerrance Simmons finished with 31 yards on 10 carries in place of LaQuintas Wallace who did not suit up.

Tyler Lee finishes their season next week at Rockwall-Heath while the Lobos play host to Rockwall.  A Lobos victory would secure the top division II seed in District 12-5A.
