New Diana Rolls Past Hooks to Take 1-0 Series Lead
TEXARKANA -- The New Diana Eagles rolled to a 10-2 win over Hooks in the opener their Class 3A Region II quarterfinal playoff series Wednesday night.
New Diana (24-5) broke the game open with five runs in the sixth inning.
The series resumes with Game 2 at 5 p.m. Friday from Pine Tree High School's Field of Dreams in Longview. A Hooks (18-10) win would force a decisive third game immediately following.
Jordan Stroud led the 12-hit onslaught for New Diana by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Tristan Swain doubled and had three RBI's, while Dakota De Baun drove in two and scored twice.
New Diana pitcher Jacob Burton allowed two runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in the complete-game victory.
Marquiz Estell and Connor Price combined for four of Hooks' six hits, while Scott Satterfield and Blake Starrett were responsible for the Hornets' RBI's.
