ALTO -- After a one-point season-opening loss to Elkhart, Class A's No. 8 Alto Yellow Jackets bounced back with a 47-27 win Friday night against Groveton.

The backfield duo of Jacolby Whitaker and quarterback Zac Sturns powered the Jackets, who amassed 361 rushing yards. Whitaker carried 17 times for 179 yards and three touchdowns, while Sturns ran 20 times for 143 yards and three scores.

Sturns also completed 4 of 7 passes for 117 yards and one touchdown, a 59-yarder to JaVie'Ontae Mumphrey. Whitaker caught two passes for 45 yards.

The win was the first for new head coach Paul Gould, who replaced longtime coach Keith Gardner, who retired in the offseason. Alto (1-1) visits fellow Class A powerhouse Tenaha (1-1), which lost 17-10 to Class 2A Garrison on Friday, at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.
