North Carolina Offers Tyler Lee’s Chance Amie
If the major conference schools within Texas schools aren't going to take a shot at Chance Amie, interest from name brand schools on the East Coast will more than make up for it.
North Carolina entered the sweepstakes for the senior Tyler Lee quarterback Friday and presented the prospect with his 18th college football scholarship opportunity from the NCAA Division I FBS level. Amie reported the news through his personal Twitter account.
The Tarheels program is the third such school from the Atlantic Coast Conference to take an interest in East Texas' sole quarterback prospect among 2018 prospects to date. It follows in the footsteps of conference rivals Syracuse and Virginia.
Amie (6-3, 190) completed 97 of 180 passes for 1,556 yards and 10 touchdowns to seven interceptions last year in his first full season as a starter. He carried the ball 183 times for a net of 1,265 yards and scored 17 touchdowns through a 10-game season.
Lee was plagued for a second consecutive season with an underperforming defense.
While Amie turned in decent numbers and rising junior running back Ladarius Wickware had a breakthrough season, Lee lost five games in which the team scored 35 or more points toward a 2-8 overall record.
Two of those losses occurred in spite of the offense scoring more than 50 points. Four losses were decided by one possession.
Amie is in search of a new head coach. Clayton George resigned from Lee last week after one season.
North Carolina managed an 8-4 season under fourth-year head coach Larry Fedora in 2016. The season ended with a two-point loss to Stanford in the Sun Bowl.
The Tarheels have won five ACC titles, the most recent in 1980.
On top of hosting a solid football program, the University of North Carolina is regarded as a "Public Ivy." It shares that distinction with Virginia among Amie's college options.
Amie will first become eligible to sign with any Division I school that offers him in December.
