HALLSVILLE -- Maliq Owens scored two touchdowns, including one from 95 yards out, to give Pine Tree a 22-17 win over Hallsville on Friday night in a District 16-5A matchup.

The win gave Pine Tree its first win over Hallsville in 16 tries and moved the Pirates to 2-6 on the season and 2-2 in district. The Bobcats dropped to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Pine Tree took a 7-3 lead into the half after Owens took the ball 95 yards to the house in the first quarter.

Payton McGarvey connected with Chris Kuler for two touchdowns for Hallsville, the second of which gave the Bobcats a 17-16 lead early in the fourth quarter. The pair combined for a 37-yard touchdown to give Hallsville a 10-7 lead with 8:58 left in the third quarter.

But Owens responded, scoring from 5 yards out with a minute to play to cap an eight-play, 64-yard drive that gave the Pirates the victory.
