San Augustine Notches First Win 35-16 at Hemphill
HEMPHILL -- After a tough early-season schedule, San Augustine got its first win of the 2013 campaign Friday night in a 35-16 victory at Class 2A Hemphill.
San Augustine (1-3) ran for 320 yards and had two players eclipse the century mark. Senior Anwar Davis had 16 carries for 126 yards, while junior quarterback JaMikel Roberts gained 110 yards on nine carries. Roberts also completed 6 of 13 passes for 110 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
San Augustine junior Jeremy Jenkins ran for 84 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Senior Dez Randle provided the Wolves big plays in the passing game with three catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
Jenkins also had a huge game on defense. He had nine tackles and broke up three passes, while his 90-yard interception return touchdown pushed San Augustine's lead to 28-8 on the third quarter's final play.
San Augustine's LaDarius Greer had 11 tackles, one interception, and one pass breakup. Roberts had six tackles and an interception. Davis had seven tackles and two breakups.
San Augustine built a 21-0 lead five minutes into the second quarter and didn't lead by fewer than 12 points the remainder of the game.
Hemphill's R.J. Harris and Hunter Phillips each had a short touchdown run. Phillips' one-yard touchdown cut San Augustine's lead to 28-16 with 8:08 left in the game after Harris' second two-point conversion.
San Augustine iced the game with a one-yard Jenkins touchdown four minutes later.
San Augustine hosts state-ranked Tenaha on Friday. Hemphill, which fell to 0-5, has a bye.
