Tuesday Diamond Roundup: Pine Tree Baseball Holds Off Longview
LONGVIEW -- Pine Tree scratched out a 6-3 win against Longview by holding its ground in a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday in both teams' District 15-5A opener.
Extra base hits were key for the Pirates (7-4, 1-0). Shaffer Russell, Patrick Shore and Brandon Treumner all hit a double in the game.
Will Harris led the team offensively with a 2 for 3 night and an RBI.
Reliever Cade Hardin got Pine Tree out of its most critcal jam as part of his 3 1/3 innings on the mound. He allowed a hit and gave up three walks in the process.
Starting pitcher Jimmy Cravey allowed four walks and four hits while striking out six batters through 3 2/3 innings of work.
Longview (2-5, 0-1) will travel to Greenville on Friday. Pine Tree hosts Marshall on Friday.
Elysian Fields Softball Run Rules Gilmer
ELYSIAN FIELDS -- The Lady Yellowjackets finished non-district competition on a high note with a 10-0 win against Gilmer in a five-inning game.
Starting pitcher Shayla Matthews pitched a one-hitter and struck out nine batters in the circle.
Jacey Doyle and Sarah Findley both batted 2 for 3 in the contest. Doyle recorded two RBIs while Findley knocked in a run and doubled during the game.
McKaylyn Dixon and Kayla Evans both recorded two RBIs to round out top offensive performers.
Elysian Fields will begin District 17-3A competition Friday at Waskom. Gilmer starts its District 16-4A campaign Tuesday at Kilgore.
