HENDERSON -- The Carthage Lady Dawgs rolled to a 12-2, five-inning win over Henderson in their District 19-4A opener on Tuesday night.

Carthage (14-2, 1-0) was led by Samantha Clakley both in the circle and at the plate. She pitched all five innings, allowing no earned runs on just one hit with 12 strikeouts, and was 3-for-4 with two RBIs offensively.

Kacey Maines also had a big performance for Carthage, going 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.

Carthage is back in action next Tuesday night at home against Lufkin Hudson.

 

Chapel Hill Takes Down Brownsboro

BROWNSBORO -- The Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs earned an 6-5 win over Brownsboro on Tuesday night.

Sydney Balderrama got the win in the circle, striking out eight with three walks in seven innings. She was also 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, while Schuyler Wages was 3-for-4 with a pair doubles and three RBIs.

Chapel Hill returns to the field next Tuesday at home against Spring Hill.

 

Pollok Central Rolls Past Garrison

POLLOK -- The Pollok Central Lady Bulldogs took a 6-1 win over Garrison on Tuesday night in District 22-3A action.

Katelyn Boles' big night with her bat and her arm was the difference. Boles pitched seven innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts, while collecting two hits, including a double, with three RBIs.

Baylee Adams added two RBIs for Central (2-0 in district), Jarynn Sprinkle and Shelby East had two hits and a steal apiece, while Mercedes Leal racked up three stolen bases on the night.

Central returns to the field Wednesday at Newton. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

 

Elkhart Eases Past Jewett Leon

ELKHART -- The Elkhart Lady Elks had no trouble in a 15-0, four-inning rout of Jewett Leon on Tuesday night in District 21-3A competition.

Elkhart (12-1, 3-0) had several standout performances in the convincing victory. Preslye Cox struck out six in three innings, while Camryn Rucker punched out two in one inning in the circle.

Offensively, Cox had two hits with a triple and four RBIs to lead the way. Rucker doubled and drove in three, Molly Ormand doubled and had two RBIs, while Robin Grant also drove in a run in the winning effort.

Elkhart continues its season Friday at New Waverly.

 

BASEBALL

Dalton Horton Pitches Center Past Henderson

CENTER -- The Center Roughriders went to 2-0 in District 19-4A with a 4-1 win over Henderson on Tuesday night.

Center pitcher Dalton Horton, a TCU signee, struck out 13 and allowed just a run on two hits in a complete-game effort. He also drove in a run at the plate as part of a 1-for-3 performance.

Taylor Tomlin was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Josh Burns registered a hit and a run scored, Kam Owens had two RBIs, and Marco Gutierrez collected one hit in two at-bats for the Roughriders.

Center returns to the diamond Friday night at Carthage.

 

Hemphill Tops Corrigan-Camden

CORRIGAN -- The Hemphill Hornets improved to 2-0 in District 22-3A with a 7-4 win over Corrigan-Camden on Tuesday night.

Junior left-hander Andrew Wood picked up the win on the mound, allowing three hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

Hemphill racked up 13 hits as well. Rudy Weaver, Zach Hogan, Zach Christian, Garrett Ferguson, and Hunter Phillips all had two hits to spark the Hornets offensively.

The Hornets' season continues Friday at Garrison.
