EDGEWOOD -- Emory Rains rallied from a loss in the first set for a 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 win against Mabank in the Class 3A bi-district round Tuesday at Edgewood High School.

Setters Shelbi Sheppard and Corely Cole turned in excellent performances with 33 assists and 18 assists, respectively. Cole also recorded five blocks in the victory.

Ashley Gowin scored a team-best 24 points in the match, 21 kills and three blocks through the four sets, while also saving 18 points on digs. Charlotte Bradshaw was not far behind with 15 kills and two aced serves.

Kenna Kellam was the biggest player on defense. She had 23 digs.

Rains will take on Paris North Lamar in the area round of the playoffs. The match will be played at Greenville High School, a 6:30 p.m. start Thursday.

 

Carlisle Falls To Big Sandy

TYLER -- Carlisle came within two points of breaking the school record for most wins in a season Tuesday at Tyler All Saints Episcopal School, but it just wasn't in the cards.

The Lady Indians' season came to a close with a five-set loss to Big Sandy in the Class 2A bi-district playoff round. The Lady Wildcats rallied from a set down to win, 25-20, 25-27, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13.

However, Carlisle made history in another way while not being able to elevate itself to a school-record 25th win. Ceci Deleon recorded a career-best 47 assists in the losing effort.

Julie Smith also turned in a strong performance for the Lady Indians. She scored 32 kills and two blocks in the match.

Madison Martin also broke double-digit scoring for Carlisle with 14 kills.

Big Sandy moves on to the area round and will face Avery at a time, date and location to be coordinated between the two schools.

 

Beckville Knocks Out Union Grove

LONGVIEW -- Beckville made quick work of Union Grove at Longview High School's Lobo Coliseum.

The Ladycats won the Class 2A bi-district match, 25-14, 25-5, 25-10.

Kinley Blair led the winning side with 11 kills, but it was a pretty mild night for the Texas Girls Coaches Association Poll's No. 2 team. Union Grove committed 33 various errors for Beckville points -- 44 percent of the 75 points the Ladycats needed to win the match.

Beckville will take on Detroit in the area round. Hughes Springs High School will host the match at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Alba-Golden Edges Leonard

GREENVILLE -- Alba-Golden survived the first two sets against Leonard and then ran away in the third set for a 25-23, 25-23, 25-16 win in its Class 3A bi-district round contest at Greenville High School.

CeTara Carter led the way with 10 kills and three blocks. Caitlin Lennon and Gracie Pendergrass scored nine points each to round out the top tier of Lady Panthers scorers.

Lennon also recorded 10 assists in the win, second to Briana Weissert's 14 assists.

Alba-Golden will take on DeKalb in the area round. The two teams will work out a time, date and location today.
