TEXARKANA -- A scoring drought nearly eight minutes long sunk Hallsville in its District 15-5A game against Texas High.

The Bobcats took a 9-4 lead to start the game, but the team went scoreless through the next 7:58. In that span, the Tigers went on a 23-0 run and ran away with a 69-45 victory.

Texas High shot 24 of 51 from the floor and won the battle on the boards by eight rebounds. The Tigers also were aided by 30 Hallsville turnovers.

Damian Lewis led Texas High with 23 points. Jaylen Rhone added another 16 points in the win.

Hallsville had no players reach double-digit scoring figures.

The Bobcats will try to respond back at home Friday against Mt. Pleasant. Texas High will simultaneously visit Pine Tree.

 

Marshall Downs Pine Tree

MARSHALL -- The Mavericks coasted to an 81-48 victory at home against Pine Tree elsewhere in District 15-5A play.

Marshall had three players score above 10 points in the win. Tiandre Jackson-Young scored a game-best 26 points, Shimar Jones chipped in 14 and Jay McKnight rounded out the Mavericks' top performers out with 11.

Pine Tree will host Sulphur Springs on Friday. Marshall will travel to Longview for a 7 p.m. tip Friday.

 

Waskom Runs Away From Liberty-Eylau

WASKOM -- The Wildcats took a big step forward Tuesday with a 70-52 win against Liberty-Eylau in a non-district game.

Waskom, the No. 21 team in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Class 3A poll, got off to a 1-4 start after delaying the season for its football state championship run.

Kaleb Haynes put up 22 points for the Wildcats. Kevin Johnson and Eric Stephens III weren't far behind with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

Liberty-Eylau got a great effort out of Decorian Meadows despite the loss. He scored 22 points to tie Haynes for the game's best total.

 

Big Individual Performances Help Winona Past Harmony

BIG SANDY -- TreDarrian Wheeler and Braxton Kincade combined for 37 points in a big 63-53 District 14-3A win for Winona against Harmony.

Wheeler had a game-best 21 points. Kincade added 16 points, nine of those on 3-point shots. Four more Wildcats scored at least five points in the victory.

Bentley Miner led Harmony with 16 points. Waymon Lay rounded out double-digit scorers with 14 points in the game.

The win helped Winona get back to .500 in district play with a 1-1 record. Harmony fell to 7-10 overall and 0-2 in league play.

 

Laneville Tops Chireno

LANEVILLE -- The Yellowjackets got separation from Chireno on Tuesday via an 83-49 District 28-A win.

Jaylon Grant led nine Laneville scorers with 21 points. He also recorded nine steals on the defensive side.

Ty Johnson, Kendrick Anderson and Tra Alexander rounded out the Yellowjackets with more than 10 points each. Johnson scored 18 points, Anderson recorded 14 and Alexander walked away with 12.

Laneville (13-3, 2-0) will visit Apple Springs at 6 p.m. Friday. Chireno, 1-1 in district play, will host Gary on Friday for its homecoming game.

 

Girls Basketball

San Augustine Defeats Beckville

SAN AUGUSTINE -- La'Sharvia Edwards scored 20 points to guide San Augustine to a 48-24 non-district win against Beckville.

Jazmine Watts added another 12 points in the winning effort.

Beckville was led by 11 points from Kimber Wesner.

San Augustine will open its District 23-2A slate against Brookeland on Friday. Beckville will get District 22-2A play underway Friday against Shelbyville.

 

No. 11 Martin's Mill Dismantles Como-Pickton

MARTIN'S MILL -- The Lady Mustangs rolled to a 77-16 win against Como-Pickton on Tuesday in District 14-2A play.

Bailey Moon scored 28 points in the victory. Cheyenne Brown had 15 points in the game.

A supporting cast of five other players chipped in with no less than five points each.

 

Gary Falls To Wells

GARY -- Wells topped Gary, 57-51, in District 28-A play.

Despite the loss, Gary had four player reach double-digit scoring figures.

Meagan Sewell, Erin McClellan and Lacey McCasland all scored 11 points in the game. Ryley Beckham added 10 points.

Gary will visit Cherino at 4 p.m. Friday.
