ETSN.fm Week 5 5A/4A Poll: John Tyler Takes No. 1 Spot into Bye Week

John Tyler's soggy Saturday night combined with Longview's district-opening loss to give the Lions the No. 1 spot in the ETSN.fm Week 5 5A/4A Top 10.

John Tyler (4-1) braved the rain to beat Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon of Mexico 20-10 on Saturday night at TMF Rose Stadium. Longview (3-2, 0-1) fell 33-7 at Mesquite in a District 12-5A opener. Those two results led to the Lions and Lobos flipping spots in this week's poll.

Whitehouse remained unbeaten at 5-0 and kept its No. 3 ranking with a 29-27 win at Carthage, while Lufkin (3-2, 1-0) outlasted College Station A&M Consolidated 71-68 in four overtimes in a District 14-5A opener to keep the No. 4 spot.

The next two spots also remained the same. No. 5 Hallsville (4-1) beat Nacogdoches 40-12, while sixth-ranked Sulphur Springs (3-2) concluded the non-district schedule with a 42-21 victory against Corsicana.

Mount Pleasant (4-1) jumped from eighth to seventh with its 42-14 win against Atlanta, while Tyler Lee (1-4, 0-1) fell from seventh to eighth following a 49-24 loss to Mesquite Horn in a 12-5A opener.

Jacksonville (2-3) moved up one spot to ninth with a 40-7 win against Marshall, while Texas High's 25-13 loss to Kennedale dropped the Tigers to 1-3 and from ninth to 10th.
