GRAPELAND -- Senior quarterback Zac Sturns accounted for 284 total yards of offense to lead Alto to a 57-20 bounce-back win at Grapeland on Friday night.

The win pushed Alto to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in District 10-A Division I. The Yellow Jackets, who lost 28-10 to West Sabine a week ago, got 215 passing yards and three touchdown throws from Sturns, who completed 9 of 14 passes and ran seven times for 69 yards.

Sturns' touchdown passes went to three different receivers: Ty Hackett (2 catches, 60 yards), JaVie'Ontae Mumphrey (2 catches, 32 yards), and LaDarius Pope (2 catches, 92 yards).

Senior running back Jacolby Whitaker ran 10 times for 55 yards and two touchdowns, while Jyran Shaw carried three times for 47 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 19 yards.

Alto hosts San Augustine on Friday in what should be the battle for the district's second-place playoff spot. San Augustine lost 60-21 at West Sabine on Friday. The loss dropped Grapeland (2-6) to 1-2 in district entering the Sandies' home game against Shelbyville.
