Ashton Ates Powers Whitehouse LadyCats to First District Win

WHITEHOUSE -- Ashton Ates had 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead Whitehouse to a 56-40 win over Corsicana on Friday night at Wildcat Arena, the LadyCats' first District 16-4A win of the season.

Kenslie Dews added 14 points, four rebounds and two steals, while Victoria Taylor chipped in with 14 points, five boards and two steals for Whitehouse (11-8, 1-2).

The LadyCats actually trailed Corsicana (14-12, 0-3), 20-11, midway through the second quarter. But Whitehouse went on a 12-0 run that stretched into the third quarter, and outscored the Lady Tigers 39-20 in the second half.

Shamara Taylor led Corsicana with nine points.

Whitehouse returns to the court Tuesday night at John Tyler.
