Edgewood QB Jackson Tyner Commits to Rice

Edgewood quarterback Jackson Tyner has committed to Rice.

The news was first reported by InsideTexas.com's Justin Wells via Twitter.

Tyner is a 6-5, 220-pound quarterback and star pitcher on Edgewood's baseball team. Rice recruited him as a quarterback, but he could translate to tight end in the future.

He also is expected to be allowed to play baseball for the Owls in addition to football.

Tyner passed for 1,8734 yards as a junior and recorded 19 touchdowns to just five interceptions. He'll be joined in the backfield by senior running back Carlos Bolton who rushed for 1,555 yards as a junior.

The quarterback's scholarship offer from Rice made Tyner the 17th unique East Texan in the Class of 2015 with a Division I college football option.

The Owls' football team currently has no other offers out to regional players, but its scholarship opportunity for Tyner made Rice the 45th unique school to offer the 17 local players.
