JOAQUIN -- Hemphill made the most of its time Friday at Joaquin's Border Bash Tournament with wins against Broadus and Alto.

The Hornets (5-0) opened the day with a 4-3 victory against Broadus. Lefty Andrew Wood faced 27 batters and struck out nine in six innings of work. 

Zach Christian took the mound for a 9-7 win against Alto. He averaged a strikeout per inning in six innings and only gave up three walks.

Offensively, Zach Hogan and Rudy Weaver combined for five hits and three doubles without being needed for the bottom of the seventh. All nine Hemphill runs came on nine hits.

 

Brook Hill Drops Two

BULLARD -- Brook Hill fell to Browsboro, 7-2, and Pollok Central, 9-4, Friday in four-inning games.

The Guard got four runs on five hits against Pollok Central, but it could not overcome giving up five runs in the top of the first. Blake Maddox led the way with two of the team's five hits.

Maddox also led the team in the loss to Brownsboro with an RBI single and a walk.

The game was tied, 2-2, in the middle of the third. Brownsboro scored five unanswered runs to close the short game.
