Gilmer Begins Title Quest With Big Win Against Pleasant Grove

HALLSVILLE -- Gilmer defeated the Pleasant Grove Hawks, 50-7, in Friday's 4A Division II bi-district meeting at Bobcat Stadium in Hallsville.
The first quarter was all Buckeyes, as they jumped out to a 15-0 lead.
On their first play from scrimmage, quarterback McLane Carter connected with Quinn Fluellen for a 43-yard touchdown strike. With 4:59 left the quarter, Kris Boyd swept around left end for a 20-yard scoring run.
DeMarco Boyd ran in a two-point conversion following Kris Boyd's score.
Gilmer’s prolific offense tacked on 21 more points in the second quarter.
Nick Smith hauled in a 50-yard touchdown reception from Carter at the 11:04 mark. Jamel Jackson had a 10-yard touchdown run with 8:32 left in the second.
Baylor signee Blake Lynch added a 25-yard late first half scoring catch from Carter gave the Buckeyes a 36-0 halftime advantage.
Gilmer (11-0) picked up where it left off.
Jackson got things going with a four-yard score at the 8:20 mark of the third quarter.
Lynch moved to quarterback and scored on a 12-yard draw play with 4:32 left in the quarter for a 50-0 lead.
Ty Everett got the Hawks on the board with 8:05 remaining in the game on a one yard touchdown dive. Dalton Hinton added the point after to make the final score 50 – 7.
Pleasant Grove ended its season with a 6-5 in head coach Josh Gibson’s first season.
Gilmer will play Waco Connally in the area round.
