Gilmer Junior Receiver Desmond Pollard Dies
Desmond Pollard, a junior who led Gilmer in receiving in 2013, has passed away, according to Gilmer coach Jeff Traylor.
Traylor made the announcement on Twitter shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday evening.
Traylor said Pollard was playing basketball in Mesquite with friends when he collapsed and stopped breathing.
Pollard was in a long line of standout Gilmer athletes who performed among the best in the area. Pollard played in all 13 games for Gilmer last season, catching 49 passes for 958 yards and 15 touchdowns.
His older brother, Darrion, is a defensive back at Rice.
Donations to offset the cost of Pollard's funeral can be made at East Texas Professional Credit Union, or online here. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer, and the funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Gilmer.
All of us at ETSN.fm extend our deepest condolences to Desmond's family, his friends and the entire Gilmer school and community. He was a pleasure to watch play, and our prayers are with you all.
