Jefferson bounced back in a big way from last week's deflating, double overtime loss to Waskom. It blew past Paul Pewitt, 58-33, Friday on the road.

Defensive back Taylor Smith, a junior, recorded 22 tackles in the game -- including five for negative yardage. He also pressured the quarterback three times, one of which caused an interception, and recovered a fumble in the three-possession win.

Smith (6-1, 174) was in a league of his own Friday and is the ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week. He succeeds Waskom defensive end Keylon Johnson, who etched his name onto the list with a big game against the Bulldogs last week.

Jefferson (1-1) has another important non-district game this week against Elysian Fields (2-0) at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Bulldogs have an opportunity to possess a winning record for the first time since Week 1 of last season.
