JaMycal Hasty committed to Baylor in March, but that didn't stop Mississippi State from at least getting some consideration from one of the state's top players.

The Bulldogs staff offered Longview's senior running back Friday. Hasty confirmed the news via Twitter.

Mississippi State has been active in East Texas for many years and has four other standing scholarship opportunities out to East Texas seniors. Gilmer athlete Kris Boyd, Newton defensive back Roney Elam, Nacogdoches cornerback Jaylon Lane and Troup athlete Blake Lynch all have the Bulldogs as an option.

Lane, East Texas' scholarship leader, is verbally committed to Oklahoma State while Hasty and Lynch make up important pieces of Baylor's developing 2015 class.

Mississippi State finished the 2013 season with a 7-6 overall record and a Liberty Bowl win against Rice. Its SEC record was 3-5.

The program is headed by the offensive-minded Dan Mullen. HIs alumni include quarterbacks Alex Smith, Chris Leak and Tim Tebow.

The Bulldogs' offense ranked 42nd nationally last season despite going against some very strong SEC defenses.

Hasty recorded the best 40-yard dash time in East Texas last year at the first annual ETSN recruiting combine at the APEC training facility in Tyler -- a 4.39 -- and won the combine's Offensive MVP honor.

His success translates outside of camps and combines. He rushed for 1,413 yards and 13 touchdowns for Longview last season in 13 games. He's expected to have even more responsibility as a senior.

Longview will open the season at Lufkin on Aug. 29.
