Sulphur Springs’ Willy Ivery Commits to North Texas

North Texas kept its East Texas recruiting momentum rolling with big news that broke Friday afternoon via Twitter.

That news was the commitment of versatile Sulphur Springs athlete Willy Ivery to the Mean Green, which has picked up three East Texas pledges in the last three days.

Ivery’s commitment joins those of Carthage senior receivers Terian “Tee” Goree and O’Keeron Rutherford, who committed to North Texas on Wednesday afternoon.

The news of Ivery’s commitment came via Crosby offensive coordinator D.J. Mann, who is a former Sulphur Springs offensive coordinator who coached Ivery while with the Wildcats. Ivery holds four other offers from Colorado State, New Mexico, Texas State, and Toledo.

Ivery has posted staggering offensive numbers during his Sulphur Springs career.

All totaled, Ivery amassed 4,630 yards from scrimmage (2,653 rushing, 1,977 receiving) and 76 touchdowns (50 rushing, 24 receiving, 2 return) during his sophomore through seniors (2011-13).

Playing primarily at running back, Ivery enjoyed a monster senior season this fall during the Wildcats’ 8-4 campaign. He ran 192 times for 1,673 yards and 27 touchdowns in 11 games. He scored at least one touchdown in every game in which he played. He also caught 21 passes for 386 yards and five touchdowns, giving him 2,059 yards from scrimmage and 32 total touchdowns. Ivery averaged 9.8 yards per touch.

As a junior, Ivery excelled as a run-catch threat, showing his skills as a rusher and a receiver. Ivery ran 86 times for 914 yards and 22 touchdowns, while catching 54 passes for 674 yards and six touchdowns. He also had a return touchdown, giving him 29 total scores in 2012.

In 2011, Ivery burst onto the scene as a sophomore receiver, catching 46 passes for 917 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also ran five times for 66 yards and a touchdown and tallied a return touchdown.

Ivery is 1 of 7 players in East Texas’ 2014 class with a North Texas offer. Whitehouse junior cornerback Nate Brooks also holds a Mean Green offer.
