GILMER -- The Gilmer Buckeyes had 657 total yards of offense and put up 66 points. They could've scored 90.

Tanner Barr passed for six touchdowns in third-ranked Gilmer's 66-32 win over Plano Prestonwood on Friday night at Buckeye Stadium, a game in which the Buckeyes committed five turnovers and racked up 115 yards in penalties.

When Gilmer (2-0) wasn't hurting its own cause, it was scoring. And scoring fast. Six of the Buckeyes' nine scoring drives took four plays or less.

Barr was 17-of-27 for 384 yards, completing his six touchdowns to four different receivers. Desmond Pollard finished with four catches for 131 yards and two scores, while Chase Tate also caught two touchdowns and ended the night with 110 yards on three receptions.

Gilmer's five turnovers consisted of two Barr interceptions and three fumbles, which led to 14 Prestonwood (1-1) points. The Buckeyes were also hurt by penalties, four of the 15-yard variety.

Prestonwood, after a slow start that included just 39 yards and four points in the first quarter, came alive in the second and third quarters. The Lions put up 20 points in the second and scored a pair of touchdowns in the third, cutting Gilmer's lead to 44-32.

Lions quarterback Twayne Blackburn passed for 200 yards and four touchdowns and ran 23 times for 108 yards and another score. Michael Irvin Jr., the son of the Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cowboys star receiver, had eight catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

But the offensive show belonged to Gilmer, which followed up its impressive season-opening showing against Atlanta with an even more productive outing. The Buckeyes ran 73 plays and averaged nine yards per snap.

Gilmer got the ball rolling on the second play of its second drive of the game when Barr hit Tate in the seam. The diminutive junior speedster did the rest racing to the end zone for a 62-yard touchdown. Two possessions later, Barr found Pollard for a 70-yard score on the third play of the series.

The Buckeyes added to its lead on the next drive when Barr connected with Tate again -- this time on a 33-yarder. Josh Walker ran in the two-point conversion for a 22-0 Gilmer lead with 10:43 remaining in the second quarter.

Prestonwood scored on the ensuing possession with a 37-yard pass from Blackwell to Jonathan Heasley, but a bad snap on the PAT resulted in a fumble that Gilmer's Devondrick Dixon scooped up and raced 89 yards for two points, which gave the Buckeyes a 24-6 lead.

Barr was intercepted on Gilmer's next series and Prestonwood took advantage when Blackwell hit Irvin for a 16-yard touchdown. Irvin also hauled in the two-point conversion, bring the Lions to within 24-14.

But in typical Gilmer fashion, the Buckeyes responded quickly. On the first play of the drive, Kris Boyd took the handoff and darted to the left sideline where he found a wall of Prestonwood defenders. But with a quick burst, he scooted past the wave while tightroping the sideline and rolled 53 yards for a touchdown and a 31-14 lead.

Barr connected with Pollard on a 26-yard score, but Blackwell came right back with a 32-yard scoring to pull Prestonwood within 37-20 at halftime.
