Tatum’s Kyshaun Smith Receives Offer From Texas State

Texas State became the third Division I FBS program to offer Tatum 2015 linebacker/safety hybrid Kyshaun Smith, the Eagles prospect announced via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

Smith (6-1, 185) added the Bobcats to his list of suitors, which also includes Houston and Memphis, who each offered on April 29.

Texas State, which competes in the Sun Belt Conference and is led by former TCU, Alabama and Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione, have made the East Texas area a priority in 2015. The Bobcats have offered three recruits from the region -- Smith, Nacogdoches cornerback and Oklahoma State commit Jaylon Lane and New Boston athlete Jeff Gladney.

Texas State finished 2013 with a 6-6 overall record, going 2-5 in conference play.

Smith, the son of former Oklahoma and Oakland Raiders linebacker Travian Smith, served a vareity of roles for Tatum last season. He led the team in tackles with 145, while adding two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, one forced fumble and four pass break-ups. Smith also ran for 199 yards and a touchdown on 19 attempts in 2013.

Tatum will field a team full of potential Division I prospects this fall. Among the key returnees to last season’s 11-1 team are receiver Deyanta Roberson, quarterback J.D. Taylor and athletes Chaston Brooks and Devon Boyd.
