Whitehouse Defensive Back Nate Brooks Commits to Mean Green

Nate Brooks opted to accept North Texas' invitation to join its football team a year and one day after head coach Dan McCarney's staff extended it his way.

The Whitehouse defensive back confirmed Monday he has verbally committed to the Mean Green and plans to call Denton home after his senior year.

He's the third East Texan in the Class of 2015 headed North Texas' way. Canton defensive end Samuel Miller gave his word to McCarney on Sunday and John Tyler receiver Rodney Bendy aligned himself with the program in May.

The Mean Green are on their way to rivaling the success they had in East Texas during the previous recruiting cycle. Five recent graduates will play for North Texas in Pine Tree quarterback Caleb Chumley, Carthage receivers Tee Goree and O'Keeron Rutherford, Sulphur Springs running back Willie Ivery as well as Elkhart running back Jeffrey Wilson.

North Texas currently has three other offers out for uncommitted offensive linemen in East Texas' 2015 class. Those players are Longview's Broderick Washington, Lufkin's Erik McCoy and Marshall's Chett Munden.

Brooks (6-1, 150) is a versatile defensive back with experience at cornerback and safety.

He's a physical defender and doesn't shy away from contact. Some of the best highlights on his junior year film are the hits he put on receivers in the open field.

The defensive back recorded multiple pass breakups and interceptions from both the cornerback and safety positions as a junior.

Brooks chose the Mean Green in favor of offers from Louisiana Tech and Stephen F. Austin. North Texas was his first offer.
