Coming into the season, the Alto Yellowjackets were in need of a quarterback who could fill the void left by two-year starter and Tulsa signee Keenen Johnson's graduation.

Sophomore Fred Thacker, who played mostly defense as freshman, stepped into the role. And judging by last Friday night's performance, the 'Jackets are going to be quite alright.

Thacker led a fourth-quarter comeback in Alto's nail-biting 42-41 victory over previously unbeaten Garrison last week. He finished with 384 yards of offense and accounted for all six of his team's touchdowns.

For his efforts, Thacker is the ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week. He follows last week's winner, Tyler Bishop Gorman QB Jake Smith.

Thacker did most of his damage on the ground against Garrison, rushing for 260 yards and five scores on 30 carries. He added 124 yards and a touchdown through the air.

Not only did Alto face a fourth-quarter deficit, but needed a touchdown to even the game with less than a minute remaining. Thacker delivered by providing the TD with 26 seconds to play, and Alto elected to go for the win, and successful converted the two-point conversion.

Thacker and Alto (3-1) will finish the non-district portion of its schedule this Friday at Rusk.
