Arizona State Offers Nacogdoches’ Josh Thompson

The season might be over for Nacogdoches' senior defensive back Josh Thompson, but the attention keeps coming his way.

Less than a week after his team was eliminated from playoff contention with a heartbreaking 46-45 loss to Jacksonville, Thompson got some good news.

Thompson (6-0, 182), who committed to Texas during the summer, received his East Texas-leading 27th Division I FBS scholarship offer from Arizona State, he announced via Twitter on Wednesday night.

The Dragons' standout, who has played both cornerback and safety during his high school career, just wrapped up a stellar senior campaign. He finished with 71 tackles (10 for loss), two interceptions, five passes defended, two forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.

Thompson had 15 catches for 210 yards and four touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball at wide receiver for Nacogdoches, which finished 2016 with a 4-6 record.

Arizona State became the fourth school from the Pac-12 Conference to target Thompson, who also holds offers from UCLA, Utah, and Washington State.

The Sun Devils are coached by Todd Graham, who has past experience in the state of Texas at the both the high school and collegiate level. Graham was an assistant coach at Mesquite Poteet from 1988-90 and the head coach at Allen from 1995-2000. He was also the head coach at Rice in 2006.

Arizona State is currently 5-4 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Thompson, like all senior high school football prospects, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
