It hasn't taken the new coaching staff at Arkansas very long to target the East Texas 2018 recruiting class.

Less than one week after former SMU head coach Chad Morris took over the Razorbacks program, a senior recruit has become the first from the area to be offered by the Arkansas regime.

West Rusk defensive end and Texas A&M commit Tyree Wilson reported via Twitter on Wednesday of an Arkansas offer.

Wilson (6-5, 225), originally at Washington State pledge, has been committed to the Aggies since June 19. He took his official visit to College Station last weekend, and told ETSN.fm he plans on visiting Arkansas soon.

Morris, a Texas native and former high school coach in the Lone Star State, spent the previous three seasons at SMU. He inherited a program that finished 1-11 in 2014, and guided the Mustangs to a 7-5 record this year and their first bowl-game appearance since 2012.

Before SMU, Morris served as the offensive coordinator at Tulsa (2010) and Clemson (2011-13). His high school coaching career in Texas included stops at Eustace (1994-97), Elysian Fields (1998-99), Bay City (2000-02), Stephenville (2003-07), and Lake Travis (2008-09).

Arkansas has had modest success recruiting East Texas in recent years, but that is expected to increase with Morris in Fayetteville.

It has been reported that ex-Gilmer High School head coach and Texas and SMU assistant Jeff Traylor will join Morris' staff at Arkansas. Traylor was hired by Morris before the 2017 season to serve as running backs coach and associate head coach after Charlie Strong's departure from Texas.

Arkansas has signed just two East Texas products since 2013 -- former Newton defensive back D.J. Dean and ex-Marshall defensive back Micahh Smith.

The Razorbacks were 4-8 in 2017, the last of five seasons at Arkansas for head coach Bret Bielema.

Wilson was the catalyst for a West Rusk defense that was among the best in East Texas in 2017. The Raiders shut out six opponents and finished 10-2, falling to Newton in the regional semifinals.

Wilson ended the year with 126 tackles, an East Texas-leading 38 for loss, with five sacks, five forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries.

Like all seniors, Wilson s first eligible to sign with any program that offers him during the 72-hour early signing period from Dec. 20-22. Or he may sign on National Signing Day, which is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2018.
