Auburn Offers Carthage RB + Texas Commit Keaontay Ingram
Carthage senior running back Keaontay Ingram has been a solid verbal commit to the University of Texas for almost seven months, but as National Signing Day inches closer, other schools are making last-ditch efforts at securing one of the state's top recruits.
On Thursday, Ingram (6-0, 198) reported via Twitter that Auburn has entered the pursuit, giving him 29 Division I FBS scholarship offers in total.
The early signing period begins Dec. 20 and continues through midnight EST on Dec. 22, and thus far, there haven't been any public announcements from Ingram on when he plans to sign his national letter of intent.
If he elects to bypass signing next week, he must wait until Feb. 7, 2018.
Ingram has offers from most of college football's elite programs. Auburn is the seventh SEC program to offer, joining Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.
Auburn has not traditionally had success landing players from East Texas, but the Tigers do currently have four native Texans on their roster, including starting quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who hails from Stephenville.
The Tigers captured the SEC West Division championship this season under fifth-year head coach Gus Malzahn. Auburn is 10-3 on the year and will face Central Florida on Jan. 1 in the Peach Bowl.
Ingram, whose team plays Friday night against Waco La Vega in the Class 4A Division I state semifinals, has rushed for 1,957 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2017. In his career, Ingram has rushed for 4,838 yards and 71 TD's.
