TEXARKANA – Top-ranked Carthage overcame an early second-half deficit with four third-quarter touchdowns, taking down Liberty-Eylau, 42-28, Friday night.

Carthage (2-0), the two-time defending state champion, extended its winning streak to 28 games with the come-from-behind victory.

Bulldogs running back Tucker Smith rushed for 137 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the way. Gunner Capps threw for 158 yards with three TD’s.

Liberty-Eylau (0-2), which outgained Carthage on the night, was led by quarterback Isaiah Cross. He completed 18 of 23 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns, including an 88-yarder to El-Amin Greer.

The season resumes for both teams next Friday night. Liberty-Eylau plays host to Texas High, while Carthage travels to Marshall.
