TYLER -- In desperate need of a win to keep its hopes of reaching the playoffs alive, Tyler Lee turned to its biggest two offensive stars.

Senior quarterback Chance Amie rushed for four touchdowns, junior running back Ladarius Wickware ran for 152 yards and scored twice, and the Red Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak with a 49-20 rout of Mesquite at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium on Friday night.

Lee (4-3, 1-3) earned its first District 11-6A win in the process, while snapping a 10-game league losing streak dating back to 2015.

The Red Raiders still have an uphill climb to finish as one of the district's top four teams, as they will face Rockwall, North Mesquite, and John Tyler to finish the regular season.

Amie, who has committed to the University of Houston, rushed for 139 yards on 16 carries, and scored on runs of 3, 15, 20, and 22 yards. He also completed 6 of 12 passes for 55 yards.

Wickware scored the first and last of Lee's seven touchdowns on the night. His 39-yard dash to the end zone gave the Red Raiders a 49-13 lead late in the third quarter.

The Lee defense wasn't too shabby, either.

Mesquite (1-6, 0-4) finished with 204 yards of total offense, and managed just 42 yards and on 33 rushing attempts. The Skeeters' only touchdown until midway through the third quarter came courtesy of an interception return.

On Mesquite's first possession of the night, it tried a fake punt on fourth-and-8 and was stopped short of the line to gain, giving Lee good field position at the Skeeters' 43.

That led to Wickware's 9-yard touchdown run seven plays later, which gave Lee a 7-0 lead with 7:28 showing on the first-quarter clock.

Caleb Boger's 35-yard pick-six ended Lee's next series, but the Red Raiders moved 78 yards on their next drive, and took a 14-7 lead on an Amie 3-yard touchdown run.

Lee added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to go up 28-7 at halftime.

Amie reached the end zone from 15 yards, and with 1:23 to play in the half, the Red Raiders scored on a 25-yard pass from receiver Kameron Ross to Marquis Gray.

The Red Raiders recovered an onside kick to begin the third quarter, and Amie's 20-yard touchdown run on the fourth play of the half pushed Lee's lead to 35-7.

Mesquite's offense finally found the end zone when Jonathan Garza connected with Carlos Aguilar for a 14-yard touchdown, cutting the Red Raiders' lead to 35-13.

But Amie's 22-yard scoring run, and Wickware's 39-yard sprint for six later in the third put the game out of Mesquite's reach.

Both teams are back in action next week. Mesquite plays host to Rockwall-Heath (5-2, 3-1) on Thursday, while Lee travels to Rockwall (2-5, 1-3) next Friday night.
