Last season, the Harmony Eagles shared the District 8-3A Division II championship with Edgewood. Following an eight-win regular season, Harmony was eventually cut down by Henrietta in the second round of the playoffs.

With 16 returning starters from last year's 9-3 area finalist, Harmony begins the year ranked No. 5 in our preseason Class 3A poll.

The Eagles are actually tied with Edgewood for the most returning starters in the district, while Winona, which reached the state quarterfinals after finishing third in 8-3A, brings back 13 starters.

So getting another piece of the district title won't be easy by any stretch.

Of the four offensive starters lost to graduation, one was running back Michael Edmonson, who ran for more than 1,700 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2016.

Harmony head coach Tim Russell is banking on the experience of quarterback Spencer Seahorn, ATH Konrad Eichelman, and offensive lineman Conner Henson (Louisiana-Monroe commit) to soften the blow of Edmonson's departure.

The Eagles should have one of the top defenses in East Texas with nine starters back, including linebacker D.J. Click and defensive back Eichelman.

Non-district clashes against Waskom and White Oak should provide Harmony with the challenges it needs to face what figures to be another difficult district schedule.
