The White Oak Roughnecks had a tough act to follow in 2014. And while last season's group didn't reach the state semifinals like the previous year's squad did, valuable experience was gained by a young core of players.

Most of those playmakers return, making White Oak a team to watch in 2015.

The 'Necks must replace the graduated Cordelle Smith at quarterback, but do welcome back a bevy of talented players to the fold.

Included among them is senior linebacker Swade Smith, who was a terror in the opposing backfield all season, finishing with a robust 25 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, and 117 tackles overall.

Defensive lineman Chris Bloyd is back after a breakthrough season as a pass rusher, while receiver Dax Davis could make a big step forward after a solid 2014 campaign.

The quarterback job will go to Cade Palmer, who performed well when given the opportunity a season ago.

The District 8-3A Division I championship figures to be decided by White Oak and defending state finalist Mineola -- two programs that have played well into December the last couple of seasons.
