ETSN.fm Preseason Class 3A Poll: No. 6, Arp Tigers
The Arp Tigers have developed into one of East Texas' most consistently successful programs. They have won at least one playoff game in each of the last eight seasons, and begin the year ranked No. 6 in ETSN.fm preseason Class 3A poll.
Since 2007, Arp has compiled an overall record of 74-26, which includes four seasons of at least 10 wins or more.
Dale Irwin, entering his 13th season as head coach, will be leading a team that has 10 returning starters (six offensive, four defensive) from 2014's squad that finished 9-2 and reached the area round of the postseason.
The Tigers did lose a couple of talented players to graduation in running back Marcalas Johnson (SFA) and OL/DL Tyrone Hunt (Baylor), but Arp is high on the prospects of a couple of holdovers.
Included on that list is junior quarterback Kayce Medlock, who performed well in his first season as the starter. Medlock provides the all-important dual threat from the position, and could be counted upon to carry most of the offensive production.
Arp competes in District 8-3A Division II, one of the most competitive in all of the region. Featuring defending state champion Waskom and perennial area power Elysian Fields, along with playoff hopefuls Frankston, New Diana, West Rusk, and Troup, whichever teams survive this brutal gauntlet have an excellent chance of doing damage in the playoffs.
