ETSN.fm Week 5 2A Poll: Newton is the New No. 1

Newton opened District 10-2A Division I play with a big win, while Tatum fell in a non-district finale to Center to elevate Newton to the No. 1 spot in the ETSN.fm Week 5 2A Top 10.

Newton (4-0, 1-0) shut out Warren 51-0 to open district play and jump from No. 2 to No. 1 in this week's poll. Tatum's 43-30 home loss to Center sent the Eagles (4-1) from No. 1 to No. 4.

New Boston and Troup each moved up a spot thanks to Tatum's loss.

New Boston (5-0, 1-0) opened District 8-2A Division I play with a 51-6 blowout of Queen City behind Damien Haskins' five touchdown runs to move from third to second, while Troup improved to 5-0 with a 49-20 non-district-concluding rout of Huntington that boosted the Tigers from fourth to third.

The fifth through 10th spots all remained the same.

No. 5 Daingerfield (3-2, 1-0) opened 8-2A Division I action with a 35-18 win against Redwater, and No. 6 Hughes Springs (4-0, 1-0) started District 9-2A Division II with a 52-0 rout of Ore City on Saturday at Lobo Stadium in Longview. No. 7 Jefferson finished non-district play 5-0 after a 34-14 victory against Pleasant Grove.

Eighth-ranked Mount Vernon (5-0, 1-0) opened 8-2A Division I play with a 28-26 win against Hooks, while No. 9 Arp started the District 10-2A Division II slate with a 41-7 victory against Garrison. White Oak (4-1) concluded non-district play and held the No. 10 spot with a 35-33 win against Mineola.
