Florida Offers Marshall’s Chasen Hines
It's been more than four months since Marshall senior offensive lineman Chasen Hines announced his commitment to LSU.
And for just the second time since then, Hines has a new offer to ponder.
Florida became the 17th Division I FBS program to offer Hines, the Marshall standout reported via Twitter on Tuesday.
Hines now holds offers from three SEC programs -- LSU, Florida, and Texas A&M. He also has Power 5 opportunities from Arizona, Baylor, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU, Texas, and Texas Tech.
The only other East Texan in the 2018 recruiting class with an offer from Florida is Arp safety and Texas commit DeMarvion Overshown.
Hines helped Marshall’s offense to 3,939 total yards in an 11-game 2016 season. As a sophomore, he was part of an offense that put up 5,401 total yards and drove the team to a third-round appearance in the Class 5A Division I state playoffs.
Marshall will be under new leadership in 2017 after head coach Clint Harper left to become the athletic director for Duncanville ISD last month after four years on the job.
The Mavs hired former DeSoto head coach and SMU assistant Claude Mathis as its new head coach last month.
Florida is 19-8 in two seasons under head coach Jim McElwain, which includes back-to-back SEC Eastern Division championships. The Gators lost in the SEC title game to Alabama both years.
Hines, like all incoming seniors, will first become eligible to sign with any Division I program that offers him in December.
