GARY -- The hosting Lady Bobcats split games Friday in the Gary Basketball Tournament with a 39-35 win against Beckville and a 52-40 loss to Alto.

Ryley Beckham scored 14 points in the Beckville game and also recorded seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Meagan Sewell chipped in another 10 points for Gary.

Lacey McCasland recorded a game-best eight boards for the Lady Bobcats.

Beckville was led by Kimber Wesner's nine points in the loss. Summer Dennis finished second in team scoring with eight points.

Beckham, who recorded six steals, and Sewell were Gary's best weapons in the Alto game with 13 and 11 points, respectively. All of Sewell's points from the field came on 3-point shots.

McCasland had nine rebounds for a total of 17 on the day.

 

West Rusk Tops Beckville

GARY -- West Rusk defeated Beckville, 73-54, despite 30 points from Kimber Wesner.

Jasmine Session scored 17 points and Jazmine Sanchez chipped in 14 for the Lady Raiders.

In addition to 30 points, Wesner grabbed a team-best six rebounds and added one assists.

Wesner finished with 39 points in the two Friday games.

 

Boys Basketball

Laneville Records Another Impressive Win

GARY -- The usual Laneville suspects reached double-digit scoring and the Yellowjackets cruised for an 81-34 win against Marshall Academy.

Kendrick Anderson and Jaylon Grant both scored 20 points in the game and Tra Alexander added another 14 points.

Anderson had seven rebounds in the game, Grant dished out an impressive seven assists and Tra Alexander tied for a team lead in steals with Tiarel Franklin with four.

Laneville (7-1) made seven 3-point shots in the game. Alexander, Grant and Christian Brantley all hit two shots from behind the arc. Ladarius Arnett made the remaining long-range shot.

The Yellowjackets will play New Summerfield at 7:45 p.m. for the tournament championship on the boys' side.

 

Whitehouse Beats Burkburnett, Falls To Lubbock Monterey

BURKBURNETT -- Whitehouse fell to Lubbock Monterey earlier in the day Friday and rallied in a big day against host Burkburnett in the Wichita Falls area's Fantasy of Lights Basketball Tournament.

Four Wildcats scored double-digit figures in the rebound game, a 80-55 win which propelled Whitehouse to an 8-6 overall record.

Logan Gonter led the way with 14 points. Colby Duhon and Trent Williams both scored 11. Ryan Walls had 10 points.

Bench play was a big boost. Whitehouse had 11 different players score against Burkburnett.

Williams, Javier Neal and Ashton Melton scored nine points apiece in the loss to Lubbock Monterey, a 64-44 decision.

The Wildcats will wrap up their time in North Texas with a game against Canyon Randall at 1 p.m.
