Gilmer Dismantles Caddo Mills, 63-14, to Reach Third Round of the Playoffs
SULPHUR SPRINGS -- A second-round playoff victory came easy for the Gilmer Buckeyes.
Aaron 'Poppy' Brown accounted for five touchdown passes and Bran Webb was involved in four in Gilmer's 63-14 rout of Caddo Mills on Friday in a Class 4A Division II area round playoff game at Gerald Prim Stadium.
Brown threw four touchdown passes and ran for another while Webb ran for two scores and caught two of Brown's touchdowns in the win. Gilmer, which improved to 10-2, will face Melissa in the regional quarterfinal round next week. Melissa beat Rusk, 56-34, on Friday night.
The Buckeyes led 49-0 at halftime and never looked back, scoring the game's first nine touchdowns before Caddo Mills was able to get 14 points on the board in garbage time.
Brown and Webb were involved in every Gilmer touchdown of the first half, with Brown scoring on a 29-yard touchdown run, followed by a Brown-to-Webb 80-yard touchdown, a Webb touchdown run, two touchdown passes from Brown to Braydon Bates and Webb, respectively, a 42-yard touchdown run by Webb and a 12-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Qua Heath.
Gilmer didn't stop there, scoring the first two touchdowns of the second half on touchdown runs by Larry Montgomery and Dylan Fuller.
