It took the right school and six days of consideration for LaMarcus Morton to end his college football recruiting process.

The rising senior Gilmer receiver verbally committed to Oklahoma State on Saturday in favor of 12 other Division I FBS scholarship opportunities and a handful of offers from FCS competitors. Morton confirmed the news to ETSN.fm.

Verbal commitments are non-binding.

Oklahoma State entered Morton's portfolio of college choices Monday on the heels of a 10-3 season that ended at the Sugar Bowl. The Cowboys program tied for second place in the Big 12 Conference standings alongside TCU.

Speaking of Big 12 competition, Morton (6-2, 175) chose the Pokes ahead of an offer from conference rival Texas Tech. The bulk of the prospect's offers were scattered around other conferences with three of the schools interested belonging to power five conferences in Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Indiana of the Big Ten.

Morton led a group of 17 Gilmer players that caught at least one pass last season with 589 yards and seven touchdowns on 34 receptions. Ten receivers on the team caught for at least 100 yards.

Gilmer produced about 6,300 yards of total offense last season en route to a Class 4A Division II state semifinals appearance. A loss in that postseason game snapped a program-best 31-game winning streak that dated back to Week 1 of the 2014 season.

Oklahoma State is actively recruiting Center receiver Octavius Evans and Nacogdoches cornerback Josh Thompson in addition to Morton.

John Tyler receiver Damion Miller, Bullard tight end Major Tennison and Henderson athlete  Lakendrick VanZandt also possess offers from the Cowboys program, but each of those players is committed to a different Big 12 team. Miller and Tennison pledged to Texas last year and VanZandt aligned himself with TCU earlier in the week.

Morton, like all college football prospects currently in their senior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in February.
