Henderson’s Trestan Ebner Commits to Baylor
The recruiting process has been anything but simple for Henderson senior receiver Trestan Ebner.
The journey first took him to SMU, where he became the first commitment of the Chad Morris era. A few months later, Ebner re-opened his recruitment amid a flurry of new offers, before deciding TCU was where he wanted to be.
And just before the new year, Ebner was being pulled in another direction. And on Sunday afternoon, the Lions' playmaker decided to commit to Baylor, he announced on Twitter.
Ebner (5-11, 180) made the decision while on an official visit to the Waco campus. He is the 22nd East Texan in the 2017 class to offer up an FBS commitment.
Since former Temple boss Matt Rhule took over as Baylor head coach last month, the Bears have heated up on the recruiting trail. When Rhule assumed the job, Baylor had one pledge in the 2017 class.
But with Ebner's commitment, Baylor now has 12 players who've offered up verbal agreements to join the Bears.
Baylor finished 7-6 in 2016 under interim coach Jim Grobe, who was placed in charge of the program following Art Briles' departure in May of last year. The Bears began the season at 6-0, but dropped six consecutive games before claiming an impressive 31-12 win over Boise State in the Cactus Bowl on Dec. 27.
Ebner was a force for Henderson last season, helping the Lions to an 11-2 finish and a berth in the Class 4A Division I regional semifinals.
He finished with 57 catches for 1,074 yards and 16 touchdowns, while adding three rushing touchdowns. Ebner also had three defensive touchdowns while playing safety.
Ebner, like all college football prospects currently in their senior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him on Feb. 1.
