John Tyler + Longview Could Be Headed For 6A After Turning In UIL Snapshot Numbers

Tyler Lee may not be the only East Texas member of Class 6A when the University Interscholastic League's biennial realignment and reclassification process takes place in February.

John Tyler and Longview, which are currently classified as 5A schools, each turned in enrollment figures well above the 6A/5A cutoff from two years ago on Friday for UIL's "Snapshot Day."

The UIL is expected to announce the new conference cutoff figures in December, ahead of the official re-districting and reclassification, which takes place in February.

John Tyler turned in an enrollment of 2,270 students, easily above the 2,100 threshold that separated 6A from 5A for 2014-16, while Longview reportedly turned in 2,200.

If John Tyler and Longview both move up to 6A, they will likely join Tyler Lee in a district also comprised of Mesquite ISD schools as it's been in the past.

Below is a look at the conference cutoff numbers from the previous realignment, along with a look at enrollment figures turned in by East Texas schools Friday.
