Keaontay Ingram Starts 2017 Off With a Bang in Carthage’s 49-7 Rout of Gladewater
CARTHAGE -- Keaontay Ingram didn't take long to show why he's headed to The University of Texas on Friday night.
Carthage's running back ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries to lead the defending state champion to a 49-7 win over Gladewater at Bulldog Stadium.
Ingram went 65 yards to the end zone on his first carry of his senior season, and added another long touchdown in the first half, which ended with Carthage ahead 42-0. Ingram didn't see the field in the second half.
Carthage (1-0) quarterback Gunner Capps completed 9 of 12 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, one to Dewaylon Ingram and the other to Dee Bowens.
Quinton Owens' 60-yard fumble return for a touchdown gave Carthage the 42-0 lead at halftime, and Chad West closed out the Bulldogs' scoring on a 42-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Gladewater's only score came on a 3-yard touchdown run by Danny Badger in the third quarter.
