Kilgore’s Jonathan Shepherd Offered By Florida Atlantic

At this time last week, Kilgore receiver Jonathan Shepherd was still waiting on his first Division I scholarship offer.

What a difference a week makes.

Shepherd announced via Twitter that Florida Atlantic offered him on Saturday, giving him four FBS offers since Tuesday.

In addition to Florida Atlantic, Shepherd (6-3, 196) also holds offers from Colorado State, Kansas State, and Louisiana-Monroe. He also has Division II invitations from Northeastern State and Arkansas-Monticello.

Last season, in a predominantly run-oriented offense, Shepherd caught 17 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns. Kilgore shared the District 9-4A Division I title, and advanced to the area round of the playoffs, finishing with a 7-5 record.

Florida Atlantic, located in Boca Raton, Fla., competes in Conference USA, and will be under first-year coach Lane Kiffin this fall. The Owls finished 2016 with a 3-9 overall record for the third consecutive season.

Shepherd, like all college football prospects currently in their junior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
