MESQUITE -- K'Lon Warren tossed a pair of touchdown passes in his first start at quarterback, leading John Tyler to a 29-14 win over Mesquite on Friday night at E.H. Hanby Stadium.

It was the second consecutive District 11-6A victory for John Tyler (4-2, 2-1).

Warren, a junior who relieved injured starter Devlen Woods in last week's win, completed 12 of 18 attempts for 159 yards, throwing both touchdowns to junior Ke'Andre Street.

The JT quarterback also led the team with 49 yards on 10 rushing attempts, while Street had four catches for 106 yards. He had the team's first touchdown, a 23-yarder in the first quarter, and hauled in a 40-yard scoring reception in the fourth.

Michael Givens-Washington and Victor Campbell Jr. added touchdown runs for the Lions.

Mesquite (1-5, 0-3) was limited to 203 yards of total offense.

Darrick Childs returned a John Tyler fumble 25 yards for a touchdown, and Tylon Sanders added a 2-yard touchdown run in the Skeeters' 14-point opening quarter.

Both teams return to action Oct. 20 after their bye weeks. Mesquite plays at Tyler Lee (3-3, 0-3), while John Tyler hits the road to face Rockwall-Heath (5-1, 3-0).
