Late Touchdown Pass Lifts Greenville to Thrilling 35-28 Win Over Pine Tree
GREENVILLE -- Caleb Jarvis found Donovan Smith a 31-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds left to send Greenville to a 35-28 win over Pine Tree on Friday night in District 16-5A action.
Pine Tree tied the game at 28-28 with 1:48 left after Wade Seidel hit Trey Pruitt for a touchdown pass and scored the two-point conversion. He found Pruitt for another touchdown on the Pirates' previous drive after being down 14.
Seidel completed 14 of 26 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns in the loss for Pine Tree, which (2-5, 2-1) suffered its first district loss of the season.
Greenville took an early 14-0 lead on Pine Tree, only to see that lead disappear. Seidel hit Da'Von Coleman for a 42-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to tie the game at 14-14. This followed a 4-yard touchdown run by Keshon Williams right before half to make the score 14-7.
Coleman caught seven passes for 122 yards in the game, while Pruitt's only catches went for scores.
Jarvis finished the game 14 of 18 passing for 193 yards. Smith had three catches for 68 yards in the win for Greenville, which improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in district.
