LONGVIEW -- Marshall struck first in the 107th edition of its annual meeting with Longview.

But that would be all the Mavericks would be able to put on the scoreboard.

The host Lobos put up 41 unanswered points, opening things up with a 14-point third quarter, in a 41-7 win over Mavericks on Friday night at Lobo Stadium.

Longview improved to 2-0 on the season, while Marshall dropped to 0-2, having faced two Class 6A teams to open the year.

Jessie Anderson scored twice and finished with 81 yards on the ground for Longview, which put up 285 yards rushing using eight ball carriers. Jaquan Edwards and quarterback A’Darius Carter also punched in scores for Longview on the ground.

Quarterback Jordan Lawson finished with 132 passing yards and a had a 67-yard scoring strike to Jaylin Brown for Longview.

Chris Kessler added a pair of field goals, both in the first half for Longview, which led 20-7 at intermission.

Sophomore quarterback JJ Green got the call to start for Marshall and went for 147 yards through the air, including a 40-yard scoring toss to Tahj Washington, who racked up 84 yards on four targets for Marshall.

Green also led the Mavericks on the ground, adding 33 rushing yards to his night.

After Marshall struck first, Anderson knotted things up with a long run up the middle. With a 7-7 tie, Kessler connected on two field goals on consecutive Lobo drives.

Anderson’s second score of the night made it 20-7 in favor of Longview at halftime.
Lawson and Brown connected in the third quarter and Carter added a 2-yard score.

Edwards closed the Longview scoring with an 8-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.

Marshall hosts Alvin Shadow Creek at 7 p.m. on Friday. Longview welcomes Dallas South Oak Cliff to Lobo Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
