LONGVIEW -- With homefield advantage in the first round of the playoffs on the line, the Longview Lobos found themselves in a bind in the early going Friday night.

But a big play on special teams in the second quarter turned the tide in a big way.

Longview put up 49 unanswered points to roll past Rockwall-Heath, 49-7, on Senior Night at Lobo Stadium.

The Lobos (8-1, 5-1 in District 11-6A), who won their fifth-straight, will host a Division II bi-district game in two weeks against the second-seeded team from 12-6A.

“It was huge for our kids, having another chance to play a game here at Lobo Stadium," said Longview coach John King. "They knew it was on the line, getting the top seed in Division II. We took care of business tonight.”

With Longview trailing 7-0 midway through the second quarter, Lobos' defensive lineman Daydrian Wells blocked a Rockwall-Heath punt, and the loose ball was scooped up by Kevion Bush and returned 11 yards to end zone, tying the game.

It was the second big special teams play of the night for Longview, which blocked a field goal attempt that would have given the Hawks (6-3, 4-2) a 10-point lead.

“They go down and score, then drive down again and we block a field goal," King said. "Then we drive down and turn it over on downs. It was a huge play for us to get that block and get it tied, 7-7. The kids found a little life.”

Longview never looked back.

Keilyn Williams, who sparked Longview' 295-yard rushing night with a team-best 128 yards, got the Lobos' offense on the board on their next series with a 5-yard touchdown run.

Then, after Jephaniah Lister's interception and subsequent 30-yard return, Longview sophomore quarterback Haynes King sprinted to the end zone for a 16-yard score that gave the Lobos a commanding 21-7 lead going into halftime.

Longview scored on its first four possessions of the second half to put an exclamation point on the big win.

Rockwall-Heath outgained the Lobos, 120-55, in the opening quarter. But Longview dominated after that, outgaining the Hawks by 213 yards the rest of the way.

“Our coaches did a good job of adjusting to the formation schemes they were trying to do," Coach King said. "They came out and showed a couple different looks. The big thing was we lined up right, fit our gaps, got some negative plays out there, and didn’t give them the big play.”

Five different players scored rushing touchdowns for Longview -- Haynes King, Williams, A'Darius Carter, Jaquan Edwards, and Jkameron Riggins.

“I thought we ran the ball well, it was important for us to be able to," Coach King said. "We were worried about running against a loaded box, we knew they were gonna zero us up. They did a good job of finding some creases."

Senior quarterback Jordan Lawson added a 63-yard touchdown pass to Carter in the third quarter.

“After the first quarter the offense got their stride, drew a bead on what they were doing, and we were able to move the ball," Coach King said.

Tanner McCalister, who is committed to the University of Arkansas, led Rockwall-Heath with 99 yards on 19 carries.

Longview wraps up the regular season next Friday night at last-place Mesquite (1-8, 0-6).

“We need to go take care of business at Mesquite," Coach King said. "I know everybody’s excited about a home playoff game, but we’ve gotta go play our 10th game of the year.”
