Lufkin’s Carl Williams Offered By Oklahoma State

One of the best overall prospects in East Texas' 2019 recruiting class received his ninth and 10th Division I FBS scholarship offers on Thursday.

Lufkin defensive tackle Carl Williams reported Oklahoma State and Southern Miss offers via Twitter.

In addition to Oklahoma State and Southern Miss, Williams (6-4, 310) also holds offers from Arkansas, Houston, Kansas, Oklahoma, SMU, TCU, Tulsa, and UTSA.

Williams is the third player in the East Texas junior class to be targeted by Oklahoma State, joining Newton RB Darwin Barlow and Newton ATH Tamauzia Brown.

Southern Miss has offered nine local players.

Last season, Williams was the anchor of a dominating defensive front that shut down opposing running games. He finished 2017 with 56 tackles, four sacks, and three forced fumbles in leading the Panthers to an 11-3 season that concluded in the Class 6A Division II quarterfinals.

Oklahoma State has developed into one of the top programs in the Big 12 under head coach Mike Gundy.

The Cowboys were 10-3 (6-3 in Big 12) last season, earning a 30-21 win over Virginia Tech in the Camping World Bowl last month.

Southern Miss competes in the American Athletic Conference and is coached by Jay Hopson. The Golden Eagles finished 8-5 overall and 6-2 in league play last season.

Williams, like all juniors, will first be eligible to sign with any team that offers him in December 2018.
