Lufkin’s Demond McKelvey Offered By Arkansas-Pine Bluff
The first Division I scholarship offer arrived Monday for Lufkin 2019 defensive back Demond McKelvey.
The Panthers' cornerback reported via Twitter that Arkansas-Pine Bluff has offered.
McKelvey (5-11, 165) received a Division II offer last week from Northeastern State.
The Lufkin junior is one of six Panthers with Division I offers. The list also includes 2019 DE Breylon Garcia, 2019 DE Javasia Brunson, 2019 DT Carl Williams, 2020 WR Ja'Lynn Polk, and 2020 S Jerrin Thompson.
Last season, McKelvey started at cornerback for Lufkin, which went 11-3 and advanced to the Class 6A Division II state quarterfinals.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff is an FCS school that competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Golden Lions hired Cedric Thomas as its new head coach this offseason. They finished 2-9 overall and 1-6 in the SWAC in 2017.
McKelvey, like all juniors, is first eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December.
