Lufkin’s Isaiah Phillips Commits to Louisiana-Monroe
Following a sensational senior season, Lufkin running back Isaiah Phillips began to pick up recruiting steam by receiving all five of his Division I scholarship offers in the last month.
On Monday morning, just a few days ahead of National Signing Day, he made his college decision.
Phillips announced on Twitter his commitment to Louisiana-Monroe.
The Panthers' back chose the Warhawks over other Division I offers from Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word, Northwestern State, and Stephen F. Austin.
Phillips and Henderson quarterback Trae Hall, who pledged to New Mexico also on Monday, became the 19th and 20th players in East Texas' 2018 recruiting class to either sign or commit to an FBS program.
Last season, Phillips rushed for 1,972 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns in helping Lufkin reach the Class 6A Division II state quarterfinals.
ULM competes in the Sun Belt Conference is coached by Matt Viator. The Warhawks were 4-8 overall in 2017 and 4-4 in conference play. ULM also has intriguing non-conference games against Southern Miss, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss on the 2018 schedule.
Phillips can make his decision official by signing his national letter of intent on Feb. 7.
