Lufkin’s Jacourtney Calvin Commits to Texas State

With less than two weeks to go until National Signing Day, Lufkin senior defensive end Jacourtney Calvin received his first Division I FBS scholarship offer.

And it didn't take him long to commit.

Calvin (6-3, 240) announced an offer and subsequent commitment to Texas State via Twitter on Saturday morning.

The Panthers' defender became the 28th player in East Texas' 2018 recruiting class to become an official FBS target, and he is the 18th to to have signed or committed to an FBS school.

It can become official on Feb. 7 when Calvin signs his binding national letter of intent.

Calvin was part of a deep and dominant Lufkin defensive front in 2017. He posted 29 tackles (eight for loss) with five sacks in helping the Panthers reach the Class 6A Division II state quarterfinals.

Texas State competes in the Sun Belt Conference and is coming off a rough 2-10 season under second-year head coach Everett Withers.

The Bobcats have already signed two East Texas players in the 2018 class -- Liberty-Eylau OL Kylar Cooks and Longview kicker Chris Kessler.
