Chasen Hines is the most recruited player early in the local 2018 recruiting cycle and added to his narrow lead Wednesday thanks to an offer from Louisiana Tech.

The Bulldogs' invitation, which Marshall's junior right guard reported through his Twitter account, is his sixth offer from an NCAA Division I FBS school. Baylor, Minnesota, North Texas, Texas and TCU previously reached out with scholarship opportunities.

Hines (6-3, 330) helped Marshall's offense out to 3,939 total yards in an 11-game 2016 season. As a sophomore, he was part of an offense that put up 5,401 total yards and drove the team to a third round appearance in the Class 5A Division I state playoffs.

This is Louisiana Tech's first move within the region among the 2018 group of graduates, but it is a fairly active member among schools recruiting the area's seniors. It offered five players and has secured commitments from two in Atlanta linebacker Tristan Allen and Gilmer safety Kollin Hurt.

Former Van guard Wyatt Santos and Tyler Lee linebacker Brandon Durman are on the roster and will still be around when the time comes for Hines to sign with a school.

The Bulldogs posted a 9-5 record this past season and closed the campaign with a win against Navy at the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth. They also made an appearance in the Conference USA championship game just beforehand, falling to Western Kentucky on the road.

Louisiana Tech nearly earned a signature win in Week 1. It lost on the road to Arkansas by a point, and Arkansas subsequently spent six weeks as a ranked team.

Skip Holtz will be back for a fifth season with the Bulldogs program this fall. His past three teams have all posted nine wins.

Hines, like all college football prospects currently in their junior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February of 2018.
